What is Carbon Dioxide Laser?

Carbon Dioxide Laser, also known as Co2 Laser, is a skin resurfacing treatment that reduces signs of aging such as wrinkles, loose skin and sun damage. Carbon Dioxide Lasers also treat rhinophyma and remove warts, scars and birthmarks as well.

How Does Carbon Dioxide Laser (Co2 Laser) Work?

Carbon Dioxide Lasers or C02 Lasers remove the superficial or outer layer of skin to stimulate new collagen production, for younger, smoother looking skin. Today, technology is such that the laser can precisely measure how deep the beam penetrates the skin and leaves underlying skin intact and relatively untouched. This treatment takes longer to heal than some of the newer treatments such as Yag and Fractional Laser treatments.

What Happens During a Treatment?

A partial face session can last between 30 and 45 minuets, while a full face session can take over 2 hours. A local anaesthetic is administered before the procedure starts.

After Care

After the procedure, it is important to clean the skin multiple times throughout the day with prescribed ointment to prevent scabbing and scarring. Usually pain medication and antibiotics are prescribed after the procedure to reduce pain and infection. Swelling is a common side-effect of this procedure.

You can expect to head back to your day to day routine after 10 to 15 days. You should be fully healed within a month and able to apply regular make-up.
